Melbourne Fencing Gained A Fencing Expert

1978 –  the year Diamond Fence was established. Definitely a historical year in Melbourne fencing world as in many decades to come, Diamond Fence, has been a loyal local fencing contractor for many Melbourne businesses and residential homes. But if you have been following our previous blog posts then this is something you already know. And instead of being like a broken record and repeating the same all over and over again like the fact that we are Melbourne leading fencing contractor, or if in need for metal fencing and metal fencing products you can turn to us (see, here it is again), today we’ll take a look at what happened in 1978 in Australia and the world overall.

So would you like to have a good or a bad news first? I usually like starting with the good one because then you’re in a better mood and the bad news doesn’t sound that bad anymore. Well, in today’s case it doesn’t really matter as we are going back in the history and there is nothing much we can do about it anyway, so let’s start with something positive.

1978 seemed to be a very interesting year indeed. Since this year took place FIFA World Cup in Russia, we will start with mentioning that in 1978 Argentina won the World Cup in Argentina by defeating Netherlands 3:1 in the final, after the extra time.

In the United Kingdom, the world’s first human conceived through in-vitro fertilisation was born on July 25th. He was called a “test-tube baby” as he was conceived in a petri dish and then implanted as a two and a half day old embryo. Talking more about babies, and conceiving, even though in a more natural way, there were people born who, cannot say that definitely changed the world, but definitely affected it.

Ashton Kutcher

Kobe Bryant

Josh Hartnett

Katie Holmes

Did you know that in 1978 the population of the world was estimated to 4.4 billion people? In 2018 it is estimated to 7.6 billion people. That’s almost twice as many as we had 40 years ago. Rapidly growing population and ageing population is a topic we won’t talk about today, but it is indeed an interesting one. If interested, please do some more research. Google’s your best friend.

In 1978, Sweden was the first country in the world to recognise the effect of the aerosol sprays on the Ozone layer and banned the sale. It happened on January 23, when Sweden was the first to act on the evidence that sprays containing chlorofluorocarbons were damaging to Earth’s ozone layer.

In the show business world were released some of the movies and television shows that became known world wide.

One of the biggest one of them was and still is popular Grease – an American musical romantic comedy with John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John. It’s soundtrack ended 1978 as the second-best selling album of the year in the United States.

Some of the bad or not that positive events that took place in 1978 were the earthquakes. One took place in Iran, Tabas and it’s surrounding villages, where nearly 15,000 people died and 10 000 got injured. The other one took place in Greece with a powerful magnitude of 6.5, killing 50 and injuring 220 people.

Specific to Australia, was the death of Robert Menzies, a Prime Minister Of Australia, and the death of Australian rock and roll singer, Johnny O’Keefe.

So here you go, something different, something educational. Not exactly specific to fencing in Melbourne, but variety is good, and knowing some history is good as well.
